By a special treatment of film, i.e.
hot embossing of various shapes - a particular structure of surface is
achieved. Such film is used mostly in rubber industry and also as protection of
adhesive surfaces. Properties of these films enable air draining from the
plastic material application. After the material hardening the film can be
simply pulled off.
Release liners are
necessary to separate single coated and double coated tapes and rubber. Release
liners are usually comprised of glassine, paper or plastic which has been
coated with clay or fluorosilicone. Embossed plastic film, also known as
camelback or dimpled film, works by minimizing the amount of surface contact.
While siliconized
coated papers are sophisticated and can be tailored with features such as
differential release, they are expensive due to the complex manufacturing
process. They are hydroscopic and can paper-based siliconized release papers
exhibit buckling or cockling after exposure to high heat and humidity. There is
no secondary use for them, so silicone coated release liners are destined for
the landfill.
